Baltimore Orioles Baseball Stadium: Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Introduction and Scoring Categories

Hello and welcome to my Major League Baseball Stadium Tour! I made it a goal of mine a few years back to visit every MLB Stadium, why? At the time, I had traveled to cities that had baseball teams and I had been to a few games. I do love the sport (and honestly it is way more fun to watch in person than on TV), its America’s favorite past time, there’s a lot of history behind baseball and a few of the stadiums are historic, and its a cheap professional sport to watch! The Baltimore Orioles baseball stadium is the first of many stadium tour articles as I have now visited 19 out of the 30 MLB stadiums.

In this series of blog posts, I will give a brief history/overview of each baseball stadium I visit, share what each has to offer, the food that you should try, and my overall review of each along with how I personally rank each stadium and why!

My rankings will be broken up into the following categories:
Location (including what is nearby/pre-post game activities)
Ambiance (how it looks, feels, historic ones get bonus points)
Concession offerings (including what options there are and price)

The average of the rankings will give the overall score for the ballpark, out of 10.

I hope this gives some good insight for each stadium and might help you when you plan for your visit to any of the stadiums.

Today we’re looking at the home of the Baltimore Orioles, Camden Yards.

History of Orioles Baseball Stadium

Orioles Stadium Scoreboard featuring 19th century clock

Oriole Park at Camden Yards opened on April 6, 1992. It was the first of the “retro” Major League ballparks constructed in the 90’s. It was new, but still had old-fashioned elements including being built into an old brick building (where the Team Shop is located) and a 19th century clock above the scoreboard. This stadium has the longest name out of all MLB stadiums with a word count of 5 words in its name.

Location of the Orioles Baseball Stadium

Photo ops around the baseball stadium

This stadium is located in downtown Baltimore, located within walking distance of restaurants and bars. There are no restaurants/bars that are immediately next to or right outside of the stadium geared toward pre/post game festivities.

The stadium is easy to get to and parking is easy to find with many parking garages nearby. Parking is moderately priced, with cheaper options a little further away (still within walking distance).

Since the stadium is within walking distance of parking and places for pre and post game, the ranking for location is a 6/10.

Ambiance

The Orioles baseball stadium feels modern and is pretty to look at. I love the brick and the courtyard around behind the outfield with the strung lights which gives this stadium a special feel and uniqueness.

The ambiance is higher middle to me, giving it a ranking of 7/10 for ambiance

Concession Offerings

Stadium eats – Crab Fries

They have a good selection of offerings at fair prices (for stadium standards). If you want a full meal I suggest eating before, it if you want snack foods there’s some great options. My personal favorite is their crab fries, which are waffle fries topped with crab dip!

Maryland is famous for their crab so of course there are numerous crab offerings including crab cakes, fries, and egg rolls. There are other seafood offerings as well with shrimp platters, po-boys, and cajun catfish sandwiches. Along with the normal offerings of hot dogs, nachos and pizza, you can also find tacos, jerk chicken and mac and cheese.

I have a sweet tooth, and where I will say this ballpark lacks is dessert options.

For adult beverages, they have a variety of beer carts (draft and cans) and bars throughout the stadium, with local and domestic offerings.

Because of the variety of selection of food offerings, this park gets an 8/10.
