Tips to Packing your Carry On Luggage

In today’s Travel Tip Tuesday I share with you and quick and short post on some tricks I use to pack in a carry on sized suitcase!

I made my first ever Reels on Instagram where I show you a quick clip of how I pack in a carry on (I had never made a Tik Tok either so this was a definite first)! In this Reel I was able to pack 1 pair of combat boots, heels, sandals, and loafers, 5 shirts, 3 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of shorts, a jean jacket, sweatshirt, dress, swimmy, my travel makeup and toiletries and still had room for more!

What to Pack

  • Minimal Shoes
    • Try to pack the most basic shoes you will need:
      • For me, this includes workout/walking tennis shoes, one pair of heels/nice sandals (or heeled booties in the fall), one pair of nicer casual shoes to go with most of my outfits (nice tennis shoes, or boots in the fall)
    • Wear your heaviest/bulkiest shoes on the plane
      • In the winter I wear my back boots on the plane and pack my tennis shoes. In the summer I wear my heaviest tennis shoes.
  • Capsule Wardrobe
    • A capsule wardrobe is a small collection of clothes that can be interchanged with each other. This helps you get more outfits out of less clothes, which is perfect for a carry on.
    • I always pack my staples like a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, and a pair of leggings.
    • I always pack black and white items and then throw some colors in there for mixing and matching.
      • If you’d like me to write a blog of capsule wardrobe options let me know in the comments! I can start with a fall since it’s coming up!
  • Only the essentials
    • Pack only what you know you will use and what you will need!
    • You do not need two outfits for every day, try to downsize.
  • Downsize your toiletries/makeup
    • If you know that there will be stores nearby you can by your shampoo/conditioner/body wash when you get there, or use the hotel provided ones if you’d like! (I don’t use the hotel provided ones unless they smell good, my husband doesn’t care, all your preference)
  • Travel Size or 2-in-1 Hair Tools
    • There are many options for travel hair tools that can be easily packed!

Tips for Packing

  • Use packing cubes!
  • Roll your pants and bulky items
  • Play Tetris with your packing cubes and items (use every bit of space)
  • Use the luggage straps in your luggage to keep items down and compressed
