20 at Home Date Ideas

Social distancing does not mean that we have to just sit on the couch all day. My husband and I regularly go on date nights, and since we aren’t going out for date night, does not mean we have to stop having dates all together.

Here are some ideas for At-Home Dates

Have a Fancy Dinner at Home

You can either cook a fancy meal or just get your favorite restaurant take-out. Dress up nice and set the mood by setting up the table and candles to have an intimate dinner together

Have a Dance Party

Bump up the music and set up a light show. We have the Phillips Hue lights which sync up with music and put on a good show. Before that we would go on YouTube and look up light show videos to play along with our favorite songs.

Sing Karaoke

Use your smart TV and look up songs to sing on YouTube. Karaoke Version has almost any song you want!

Make your own Charcuterie Board and Have Some Wine

Go to your local deli and pick out fancy meats and cheeses to create your own charcuterie board. If you want a cheaper option or don’t have a deli to go to, you can get meat and cheese from your local grocery store and do the same thing.

Have a Game Night

Bust out those board games or cards and have a game night.

Take a Couple’s Dance Class at Home

Something I recently found is Show Her Off, an online couple’s dance class service that teaches you and your partner country dancing. There is a fee to take these classes but you can do them in the comfort of your own home through a streaming version or DVD version. They are having a special right now of $67.

Do an Arts and Crafts Night

Decide what arts and crafts you want to do together, whether it’s making a scrapbook together, a paint night, an adult coloring book, etc, there are a lot of options.

Print out some of those photos taking up space on your phone and put together a scrapbook of your favorite memories together.

Get Paint supplies like paint and canvases and do a paint night together. You can find images online to trace and paint or get unlimited access to online paint parties for $4.99 a month here! Another option is $15 each paint night here.

Stargaze Together

If you are lucky to have a view of the night sky, set down a blanket or set up some chairs outside and look at the stars together. Look at the meteor shower calendar for this year here.

Create a Scavenger Hunt around the House

There are lots of ideas for this online and on Pinterest or create your own and search for items that remind you of good memories you’ve had together.

Have Something Sweet

Pick up ice cream through a drive through or from your local grocery store, or bake something sweet together at home!

Do an at Home Cooking Class Together

There are many online offerings of cooking classes, some free some for a fee. For a great list of offerings visit this post from sheknows.

Have a Movie Night

Pop some popcorn, turn the lights down and watch a movie together. Along with watching from your favorite streaming services, there are some services that are currently streaming free or are offering 30-day free trials (including Showtime, Starz, Sling TV, Acorn TV, and more) for a list go here.

Watch Broadway an Opera or a Concert Online

Because of the Coronavirus and social distancing, many organizations are offering free shows that you can stream online.

Broadway:
-Broadway HD has many broadway shows you can stream online. They are offering a free 7-Day trial, and you can purchase a month subscription for $8.99. Start your free trial here.
-Playbill is offering 15 shows you can stream for free online now, to see them go here.
-Filmed On Stage also has many shows that can be streamed for free, visit them here.

Opera:
-The Metropolitan Opera has opera streams nightly! See their schedule and more information here.

Concerts:
-Many artists (including Diplo, Vanessa Carlton, Sofi Tukker, Miley Cyrus, and more) are offering live stream performances during this time. I watched Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, and Marty Stuart at the Grand Ol Opry streamed live. The Opry will stream a live show every Sunday. For a complete list of artists go here.

Have a Spa Night

Do facials or a mask together and relax. You can even dress up in robes, put on calming music, and turn the lights down low.

Have a Video Game Night

Bring our your favorite video game and compete against each other. If you’re not big into video games, Nintendo Switch and the Wii have fun competitive games like bowling, dancing games, and Mario Cart.

Have a Brunch Date

Make your favorite breakfast foods and pop the champagne and have some mimosas for a Sunday (or any day) brunch. You could even make your own Bloody Marys or make some fancy coffee.

Have a Pool Day (weather permitting)

Don’t have a pool? No problem! We got this adult kiddie pool from Target and love it! Or set up some lounge chairs or a towel and sun bathe. You can set up a sprinkler to cool you off and make some icy fruity drinks like smoothies.

Backyard Campfire

If you have a fire pit, get some fire wood and start a campfire. Enjoy a cozy night together by the fire and make some smores.

Build a Date Tent and Watch Shows or Movies

When I was little I loved making make shift tents in the living room with blankets. Who says you can’t do that today. Set up a sweet and cozy tent in your living room and watch some shows or movies together in your tent.

Set up a Picnic (indoors or outside)

Gather up your favorite snack foods and get some drinks, set down a blanket in your living room, backyard, or close by picnic area and have a picnic together!

I hope these ideas help you to continue to have date nights even at home!
